All About Us

We are the 1st Lampeter Lions Cub Scout Pack, let me tell you a little bit about the town we belong to and then a bit about us as a Cub Scout pack.

Lampeter is a small university town in mid Wales. It is a small middle class town with the main centre of attention being around farming and the university, one of the oldest in the country. The town is quite small and it has all the usual services that a small town would have. Lampeter is then surrounded by vast amounts of countryside and farming is one of the main employers in the area.

Our Cub Scout hall used to be the Lampeter Grammar School and was founded by Bishop Burgess in 1805. Sir Walter Scott sent his son here - and many eminent Welshmen were taught here until 1884 when it became St David's College School.

As a Scout Group we have Beaver, Cub, & Scout sections. As a Cub Pack, we are small in number but not in heart and voice (as witnessed on a Tuesday). I have been the Cub Scout Leader for nearly 3 years now. When I became leader there was 10 Cubs which then rose to 18, but because a lot were older Cubs, a lot suddenly went up to Scouts within a few months and then were went down to 6 Cubs. But we now currently have 18 Cubs who are all very eager and keen to get on with Cub Scouting.

We are Cub pack that concentrates a lot on Scouting skills and the traditional skills of Scouting. we do lots of stuff on knots, camping skills, orienteering, fire lighting and badge work etc. In the Summer of 2007, we went on our week long summer camp to Silvercross in Swansea. This was a brilliant camp, enjoyed by all the Cubs and Leaders alike. (You can see some of the camp pictures to the right or on the Summer Camp page.)
